To the people, who suffered from an earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011
I send my deepest condolences to the families of the victims, and my sympathy and support for all those affected by the earthquake and tsunamis. We’ve seen the earthquake and tsunami render an unimaginable toll of death and destruction on the people in the northeastern Japan. The National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, has a branch station, Mizusawa Observatory, at Ohsyu-city, Iwate Prefecture.
No casualties among NAOJ staff have been reported, though some of the family members of our staff were affected. The NAOJ Mizusawa observatory did suffer some damages on its facilities sharing the hardships.
In the coming days, the NAOJ will continue to do everything we can to help contain the damage, recover and rebuild. We will stand with the people in this time of great trial and sorrow.
